Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], September 17: Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who recently turned 53, has opened up about his remarkable health transformation – and the central role Pema Wellness Retreat in Visakhapatnam played in it. After surviving a heart attack, struggling with asthma, gaining weight, and feeling like he had completely lost himself, Kashyap says he found healing and the path to return to his healthiest self at Pema.
“I had heart attacks, asthma, I was on steroids, and I had completely lost myself. I tried de-addiction programs and other places, but nothing helped until Pema. For the first time, I understood what had really happened to my body and why stress had taken such a toll. Dr. Murthy and the team explained it to me so clearly and put me on a plan that changed everything,” he recalled.
At Pema, doctors designed a program that worked around his specific needs, including their Cardiac Health Reset & Metabolic Balance programme. One of the most challenging shifts was a carefully monitored dietary reset, which Kashyap says transformed his body’s rhythm. By the fourth day, his cravings disappeared, and the results were undeniable: he has since lost 27 kilos. Alongside yoga, pranayama, and daily therapies, he also learned how to step back from constant stress and give himself the time he had long denied.
Perched on a hilltop surrounded by the sea and Eastern Ghats, Pema is a sanctuary where healing feels natural. Its difference lies not just in the location but in its philosophy, combining naturopathy, therapeutic nutrition, and ancient yogic practices with modern longevity research. Every programme is tailored daily, with doctor consultations at the heart of the experience, offering specialised plans for individual health needs and wellness goals.
“Most wellness places feel like a prison; you’re cut off and isolated. Pema is different. The location is stunning, the therapies are organic, and the daily doctor consultations make it deeply personal. You come here, shut the world out, and yet feel completely free,” Kashyap said.
For him, the transformation went beyond numbers on a scale. It became about reclaiming calm, balance, and clarity. As he put it simply, “I just love Pema. I want to tell people to come here.”
